Lockdown 05:00
Lockdown By Joseph Acosta It came among us, spreading Ravaging the weak It fell upon us, raging The air became so bleak With trepidation, terror Unable to escape, will we find solace, power As sickness drags our feet beneath the Earth? Scourge The blood of countless innocents will wash your hands Lining up the masses Painting a place we hoped to never see Filling lungs with gases In the name of a new society New World Order Same mistakes Say goodbye to skies we used to see through hearts so clear How can we choose to live a life in fear? Ascending, we can make the choice But descending, we will lose our voice Just see their eyes They feed us lies And now, we're in Lockdown This is their attack There's no turning back We must fire back We'll fire back

Premonitions 03:06
Where do I begin to see There will be nothing left of me But a trail of blood, drowned in silent tears? Still filled with uncertainty Ungrounded, clouded, never free Did I falter all this time? Suppose they take my world from me And trade it for their tyranny Will I bow down to their king? Can’t let them rob my heart Or let them consume my soul Ransack my deepest thoughts Unearth my memories They’ll see my everything And creep into my mind They’ll strip me of my dreams And take away my light Won’t let them feel my fear I'll keep from crying out And still, they're drawing near to take me Can I break...?

Gravemind 03:07
I hear the footsteps closing in Crawling in darkness Soon they will find me How many more of us will fall? What is this madness? How many screams will shake these walls? What is this sadness? Come, feel this helpless, beating heart Temptation courses through my veins Twisting my very core How many more of us will fall? What is this madness? How many screams will shake these walls? What is this sadness? ... What is this rotting sin? Rotting sin I can’t take any more Please, just end this This light is turning... Changing to black We’re here to take your pain away Begin your new life We share this ancient destiny In resurrection We’re here to take you to your fate Within our consciousness Can I give them my past… My friendships, my pain, my heartache? They’ve found me They’re here to change me And yet I open my eyes Insanity Torment We are one We share these screams We share this pain There’s no way out This is our world We will consume

Omega 03:58
I've come to feel I was mistaken When I left my life’s path and stepped onto yours Give me a reason why I should just stand on this ground that you built for me If it will just fall apart Why do you think this is who I want to be? The more you push me, the more I feel resent One day, I swear I will break free from these chains My life is not some experiment Fuck no I will not fall into place Or step inside your cage I know my song And where my life belongs Why do you think this is who I want to be? The more you push me, the more I feel resent One day, I swear I will break free from these chains My life is not some experiment Only a drone would relent to live a life Like the one you lay before my eyes Your promises are no more than ancient lies Will I remain where I am... Or will I choose to rise? Can you see the sky? Can you feel the breeze? From inside your cave? I’ll walk away with ease I’ll leave behind everything I know Remembering a world where the darkness showed How much a true existence means to me My life is for me to control You keep your lies Conformity will not breach this soul Hold your tongue and witness the Omega rise I am the Lone Wolf And I will not submit I walk a lonely road But it will soon be lit I'll leave behind everything I know Remembering a world where the darkness showed How much a true existence means to me Only the Lone Wolf is free I've come to feel I was mistaken When I left my life's path and stepped onto yours Give me a reason why I should just stand on this ground that you built for me When I'm free

Scarab 05:37
Rise, oh Sun Cross the sky with your shining Eye I carry you beyond the day I die They wear my face around their necks They feel the weight of innocence I bear the scars of the shifting earth I wear the marks of a clean rebirth Find me wandering the desert Toiling through the golden land Show me how to live forever Save my spawn from the burning sand See me Sun Such a burden I am left to bare Spare me of your never-ending glare They look at me and witness you Divinity crawling through the Earth Holiness made from minds of men At last my world will see rebirth Find me wandering the desert Toiling through the golden land Show me how to live forever Save my spawn from the burning sand Seek me until the end of time Never-dying, eternal prime I live within the most sacred sphere And through the end, my offspring will appear Seek me until the end of time Never-dying, eternal prime I live within the most sacred sphere And through the end, Khepri will appear We never die We cross the sky An Earth reflecting a changing sky A life of mortals, a passing lie Feel no shame This is the way of things We are deceit born of desert heat Rise, oh Ra Cross their hearts with your shining lie They carry you until the day they die Petekh Sensy Seki Sebetj

about

"Omega" is the second record from Taking Alpha, a metalcore band currently consisting of Joseph Acosta, Jacob Naylor, and Mirna Ayshoa. After years of production, the band is releasing this unique work on Nov. 20, 2020. But, for the story of how this record was made, one must go back to early 2017.

Taking Alpha began production of this record with their original full-time lineup. With the help of longtime band supporter and friend Brian Schmalz, the band contracted Austin Sutton, the songwriter of former Colorado band Letters to the Living, to produce this record.

Written by Joseph Acosta, "Omega" was initially slated to be a "3P", that is, a three-track EP. The group worked tirelessly with Austin to record the songs "Gravemind," "Scarab," and "Omega," which were nearing completion until, suddenly, Austin passed away.

This tragedy left a lasting effect still felt in the Colorado Springs music scene to this day, and left Taking Alpha without not only a producer, but a close friend. The loss inevitably halted production on the recording. In mourning his loss, Taking Alpha joined with his band Letters to the Living and other acts, including Redisyn, The Endless Line, and Ludoesmusic (a solo project from Austin's girlfriend), in a memorial benefit show on July 27, 2017.

In the months following, Taking Alpha experienced heavy turbulence and internal conflict. Near the end of 2017, the band split up and began a longtime hiatus, leaving Joseph (the founding member and songwriter) the sole remaining member. In this time, he continued to work with Brody Strunk, Austin's close friend and bandmate, to help continue Austin's work on the EP.

With the lineup down to one, Joseph stepped up as Taking Alpha's vocalist and committed to complete "Omega".

During a public hiatus that lasted from the end of the third quarter of 2017 to 2019, he relocated to the Denver area, where Taking Alpha continued to undergo many lineup changes. While in hiatus, Joseph re-recorded the vocals with Seth Munson, a producer locally renowned in the Colorado Springs music scene, and later enlisted the help of Yam Levi, an Israel-based producer and musician known for his work in the progressive metalcore band Revision the Dream. Joseph began work on "Premonitions", a prelude song before Gravemind, and later on "Lockdown", which was written and recorded in the first quarter of 2020.

In the years since Austin's passing, Taking Alpha has grown to their current roster. The release of "Omega" commemorates the journey of this record's production as well as the formation of a band that strives to bring something positive to listeners with a fiery, enraged passion.

Everything you will hear on this EP is the result of years of hard work, struggle, and change. From the development of the song "Gravemind" (which Joseph started years before Taking Alpha began) to working in Austin's studio, from the first scream in "Lockdown" to the last growl in "Scarab", this record is the epitome of everything the band worked for to this moment. And now, after over three years, Taking Alpha will make their mark with the face-melting, heart-throbbing, and rage-filled music in "Omega".

Dedicated to Austin Sutton, his family, and loved ones

Special thanks to Brian Schmalz
